Lets Get Personal: Peace when there is peace

They have healed the wound of my people lightly saying, "Peace, peace," when there is no peace.
 -Jeremiah 6:14

Because of Israel's continual and impenitent disobedience, the Lord gave His people over to foreign enemies and exile. He would no tolerate and leave unpunished such blatant evil, especially amongst those who were set apart as His representative people. The Israelites had much to fear. Yet false prophets and leaders did not head the warnings of Jeremiah who brought news of these tragic events, in fact they falsely proclaimed "peace" is Israel and claimed that such impending destruction was unwarranted, their God would not bring judgment upon them. But there was no peace! judgment was coming. But Israel, just like most of us today, loved to believe these false claims of security (5:31) and ignore the fact that they would be held responsible for their actions and their disobedience to their God. Today so many things too blind us to the fact that we will be held responsible, and not all of those things are bad in and of themselves, but they blind us nonetheless, giving us a sense of peace in our lives when there is, in fact, no peace. Only God can offer true peace, but we must first recognize our disobedience to God demands a pure apology and payment that we can not offer. But there is good news! There is one who offers it on our behalf, Jesus Christ. He stands with His hands outstretched offering forgiveness, full payment, restored relationship with God and, for the first time, peace when there is peace.
