Sunday In The City: The Rogers Visit

Our friends from LA (well, they hail from South Carolina) Anna and Caleb came to visit this weekend. The whole weekend was nothing short of magical and this Sunday was the cherry on top of that magical sundae.

Our first stop was Fillmore Bakery for some breakfast. They had come pretty awesome Halloween treats.

Chocolate witch.

Here they are! Trying to decide which delicious treat to break their fast with.

Then off to the Embarcadero.

Occupy my blog.

Interesting perspective. Apparently they resisted this bagel.

On to the Ferry Building.

Adorable, huh?

Time for some caffeine at Blue Bottle.

Josh doing his best Phil Davison impression. "Use as a tool.."

In case you're not familiar with Phil Davison.

I'm liking blurry photos more and more these days.

Bay Bridge.

Caleb's L.L. Bean Catalogue photo.

Pier 39 was next: Left Hand Only store and Carrousels.

Mr. Cool Shades.

Not pictured: Josh and Caleb's trip to the Home Depot to get supplies to finish up fixing our sink. Honestly, what guest fixes your sink on a weekend visit? A good one.

Anna and I hung around downtown and messed around in Zara and Macy's. I think we got the better end of the deal :)

We miss you Anna and Caleb!

Till next Sunday then.

Shoes In An Armoire

Clever shoe storage.

The Other F Word

This looks like it could be interesting.

"Punk rock dad: an oxymoron? The Other F Word, with charm and wit, explores the bizarre transformation of punk rockers (featuring Pennywise's Jim Lindberg, whose anthem is "F--- Authority") into soccer dads. The L.A. punk scene's leading men - among them Flea (Red Hot Chili Peppers), Ron Reyes (Black Flag), Mark Hoppus (Blink 182), Tim McIlrath (Rise Against), and Fat Mike (NOFX) - open up about their troubled childhoods and how, today, they balance profane rage with being conscientious parents."

Sunday Soccerthon In The City

This Sunday was an all out soccer-thon! With great things happening in between.

The day started with Chelsea v Queens Park Rangers. Chelsea was very unlucky with the refs this time around and played a majority of the game with only 9 players. They loss 1-0. Josh and I both missed Torres and his beautiful hair immensely, but he will be back next game after sitting out for his previous red card.

The game inspired us to go play some soccer ourselves. And it was a beautiful day in SF so the idea was quickly adopted. I also am trying to rehab my hamstring to get back into soccer shape, so this was a good opportunity.

I'm so fast, the camera couldn't handle it.

Josh and I decided to do our best goal celebrations, here they are.

Josh went to go surf after that and I watched "Once more with feeling" the Buffy musical episode because the songs had been stuck in my head for a week. I thought watching it again would rid me of tunes like this one...

but it only got worse.

We went to church after that and saw some people get baptized. I forgot how exhilarating it is to hear people proclaim their faith in Jesus and associate with his death and resurrection through baptism.

And to bookend our soccerthon of a day, we went over to our friends house to watch the Man City v Man U game they had tivoed.

Till next Sunday then.

All Saint & Not For Sale

Have you heard of Not For SaleI am lucky enough to know a few people who work and volunteer with this org. and I think they are doing some really important and cool stuff. Basically, it is an organization that "equips and mobilizes Smart Activists to deploy innovative solutions to re-abolish slavery in their own backyards and across the globe."

They have recently partnered with rock'n'roll designer All Saints towards this aim and are launching their efforts with a T-shirt line with proceeds going towards fighting human trafficking.

And, get this, the shirts are actually really cool looking. Don't you think?

Shop the collection here.

My Prayer Is For Strength In The Waiting

I am weary with my crying out; my throat is parched. My eyes grow dim with waiting for my God...
But as for me, my prayer is to you, O Lord. At an acceptable time, O God, in the abundance of your steadfast love answer me in your saving faithfulness.
Psalm 69:3,13

Therefore, my prayer is for strength in the waiting.

Sunday In The City

Hey all, today was not really photo worthy. But none the less, I felt like I owed you a little eye candy. So... "Treat Yo-Self!"

Healed

For the moment all discipline seems painful rather than pleasant, but later it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.

Therefore lift your drooping hands and strengthen your weak knees, and make straight paths for your feet, so that what is lame may not be put out of joint but rather be healed.
-Hebrews 12:11-13

Sunday In The City

Oh Sunday, what fun you bring. Especially Sundays during the month of October in San Francisco. There is always so much going on since it's the one month of warm weather we get here.

This morning Josh and I started out with a delicious ham and cheese croissant from Fillmore Bakeshop. The best croissants in the city in my opinion. Which you can read more about on my other blog SweetLadySass.

After breakfast, we drove over to North Beach for the annual Italian Heritage Parade, which is one of my favorite city events in San Francisco. It falls the weekend before Columbus Day usually. But they don't call it the Columbus Day Parade because everyone in San Francisco seems to hates Christopher Columbus. I wonder why?

All the cafes and restaurants set up tables out on the street, reminiscent of the sidewalk seating in Italy.

There were 40 plus Ferraris parked in Washington Square park because, you know, they are Italian and all.

This 1960's black Ferrari was my favorite. Honestly, everything was so much cooler in the 60's.

We ventured into a catholic church for a while that was open to the public. It was really beautiful inside, but I felt kind of weird just walking through, sort of like I was a tourist in place that was supposed to be used for worship.

Next we stumbled into a hat shop because we could.

Doesn't it look like Josh belongs on the Steamboat ride at Disneyland?

And even after all this fun the parade still hadn't started. So we decided to grab a quick bite at Tony's Napoletana, debated to be the best pizzeria in the city. I had been dying to try it for a while.

We ordered their famous Marghertia pizza.

And I must say, I would agree with all the hype. Best pizza I have had in the city. Absolutely breath taking. Much better than Delfina.

After lunch, we got a chance to check out the new Fiat up close and personal. Have you seen them? They have been popping up everywhere in SF. I think they are adorable.

Finally, time for the parade to start. Photo opp!

The Italian stereotypes were so over the top but so fun.

This kid was loving it, and so were we. Josh's favorite part was how the parade just kinda happened, without any real organization, rhyme, reason or order. He said it was very Italian. I, being half Italian and very logical, punched him in the arm.

Lastly, we stopped by an estate sale that was packing up for the weekend and got some awesome old books for free.

Till next Sunday then!
