..for He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.
-I John 4:4b
We have God in us through the Holy Spirit and He is greater than satan and all his demons. Considering this, it is quite funny, sad rather, that the things of this world can sometimes have such a louder voice than that of the Lord's. I believe it is because of our pride and our failure to study and emerge ourselves in the character and power of the Holy Spirit.
The Holy Spirit if greater, but just as Achilles was of no use to Greece against the Trojans sitting in his tent, so the Holy Spirit is not allowed to victor in our lives unless we bring Him out to battle. Furthermore, just as Agamemnon's pride in thinking he could win the war without his hero led to the slaughter of thousands of his men, so we allow many casualties of our spirit by striving to be godly out of our own strength.
We must humble ourselves and study the power of our soul's Champion. For it only when we know the greatness of the Holy Spirit and acknowledge our defeat without Him that we can truelly call on Him and harness His power.
Lord, I am powerful because you are powerful. The world stands no chance, nor do the powers who propel it. Give me the strength today to be greater.
(Note: This is not a perfect allusion. Greek myths are flawed and are... well... myths. However their morals and principals often make good illustrations.)
